Spalting is the early stages of fungal entry into wood that if left in the forest would eventually reduce the wood to dirt. If you look at the white areas of spalting, you'll see very fine black transition lines between the spalting and the reddish wood.
I shaped this plate to best show this spalting and then left a tiny raised foot and lipped rim in a profile that echoes the wood plates that were common in Europe and early colonial America.
This plate will display cookies perfectly, or even serve well as place to leave your wallet and keys by a front door.
