bowl measures 8" X 2 3/4"

So what's the paradox?  I shaped this bowl to be heavy, to highlight the grain in the wider rim and to give a solid round feel in this hands.

On the other hand, the bowl has a full radius curve that makes the bowl feel light on the table.  That's the paradox.

The base is to my eye just plain stunning.  I felt a little bad about having my wife sign the bowl. (She signs the bowls for me because I have horrendous hand writing.)

The interior of this bowl is still pretty dang nice too!  There's great grain, figure, cat's eye and such.

This bowl came from a short and solid mountain ash that was planted in the 1950s in front a historic downtown Sitka home.  The granddaughter of the man who planted the tree gave me the tree after it died of old age.  The coloring and grain in this bowl have made so many exceptional bowls...it's sad for me that I'm coming to the end of this amazing tree.

This will make a great smaller fruit bowl or a bowl for small items such as keys, wallet, or hobby things.
