Over 2,500 years ago Lao Tzu famously said that what is not there often makes a form useful. In this case, it's the wood removed from the interior of the bowl that makes the bowl useful.
I like how the darker wood on either side of the rim connects the two sides. It's easy to visualize the missing darker wood. For me at least: wood just lends itself to metaphor: balance, connectedness, and more.
This tree grew right in the heart of historic downtown Sitka on a windy hill. I'm fond of the wavy grain that shows well both on the outside of the bowl and in the interior.
This bowl will work well as a smaller salad bowl or fruit, or for whatever you like to keep organized...
